Debate_getty_2 After a week of speculation over whether or not it would actually happen, Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama just squared off in the first Presidential Debate of the 2008 election.

I think McCain need a clear and decisive win and he just didn't do that.

Plus what the hell was he saying talking about the North Koreans being 3 inches shorter than the South Koreans? That makes absolutely no sense.

I don't think Obama hit a home run, more like a standing double. McCain was more like a single that was just barely safe. Not good for McCain. Lots of pressure now is put on Palin.

Ron

Lack of food in North Korea(except of course for the glorious leader and his favorites) has caused malnourishment there, resulting in stunted growrh. It is probably the most repressive country in the world. McCain won the debate, though not by much. Obama at least showed that he's not fit to lead.

I think Sarah Palin won because for one half news cycle she wasn't caught in some lie or inanity. Congrats!

wild-n-free

Letterman won !!!

Dave

The pundits, on Charlie Rose, etc. said McCain didn't look at Obama during the debate so, body language-wise, Obama won. In my eyes, Obama won. All McCain did was attack. He seemed hostile and angry. Obama was more agreeable, someone I'd rather see as President.

Steve

WOW!! So there is such a thing as a Log Cabin Republican, I thought it was just a myth, McCain won?!? Obama proved he wasnt ready to be President?!?! I must have watched a different debate then this person, OBVIOUSLY if anything they both held there own, but as one uncommitted voter said last night after the debate, Obama came off like Jack Kennedy, articulate, and McCain was stressed and agitated like Nixon in the 1960 debate!

Mike

It was a draw. But in general, McCain is the loser because Obama held his own on foreign policy. McCain is also the loser because he's shown himself as less than honorable for holding the Wall Street bailout talks hostage to his campaign. McCain knows less about the economy than any other member of the Senate.

bj

I was surprised McCain continually kept refering to his past experiences and record..bla, blah, blah....if his past experience and record are so note worthy why is this country is such a mess? It time for fresh new leadership in this country which is what Obama brings to this election. Out with the old way of thinking and doing things and in with new fresh ideas to lead the country into the future. Isn't this the future we are talking about and not the past?

jamie

I completely agree with Steve's comment. Obama did come off articulate and McCain....well... not so much. He did seems stressed and nervous. He should be nervous. I was watching him closely too. And it just seemed like he was hiding something. I don't know if it was all this talk about economy or what. That could be, because he OBVIOUSLY doesn't know a damn thing about economics. I don't think either candidate came out a shining star, but I do think Obamas confidence made him the clear winner in this debate.

Green guy

I found his references to his past distracting as well. I absolutely respect McCain for serving in the military and for being a POW, but by the one hour mark, his references became downright odd.

It was like sitting with your grandfather and having to endure long answers to simple questiosn. "Grampa, do you like salt?" "I once saw a family starving to death in the war, so I gave them salt. And General McArthur was there and we then had dinner with a family of 8 and they were going through hard times --"

It was like that -- bad example, but that's how McCain came off to me. And I didnt like that he never even looked at Obama.

Jim

Obama won, When McCain was asked a question, he answered with what Obama did or didn't do, which was incorrect every time. then he presented his position, which was questionable. Obama corrected McCains mistakes, complemented his accuracys, then answered simply and to the point. and McCain kept interjecting, in the middle of a sentence or train of thought. "I have a record" what record? a 78rpm that he plays on his RCA Victrola, or one given to him by Edison.. "Mary had a little lamb, it's fleece was white as snow"? McCain seemed like a doddering old man with googly eyes, oh wait, he is.. well he did good then.. but Obama "hit a homer" maybe not a grand slam, but a scoring run all the same..

Barbara Wilcox

McCain sounded sharp during the foreign-policy arguments; Obama was lecturing a little bit, sounding a little too professorial, and I thought Oh, crap, it's Gore vs. Bush all over again. Then McCain just let his advantage dissipate. He started telling that same anecdote about the POW bracelet guy for the 1000th time.

Mac! What about the people who've died LATELY? When are you going to bring people home from THIS war?

corrective_unconscious

I think McSame's stubby fingers and queer Quisling chief of staff indicate McAARP has a small and wizend penis.

Want his finger on the nuke button? I don't think so.

Queerplanet

Let's see. A man who has lied about everything and can't look his opponent in the eye is running for president and we should care what he has to say?
