Vote Yes Crowd Turns to Judicial Intimidation
On the heels of yesterday’s decision by the California Supreme Court to hear arguments about the constitutionality of Prop 8’s outcome, a new political maneuver is being turned to by the Vote Yes crowd: political intimidation.
The Vote Yes folks are threatening to lead a statewide recall against any and all justices on the CA Supreme Court that vote to overturn the outcome of the referendum (and thus re-legalize same-sex marriage in California). Justices in CA – and in all states, and at the federal level – take an oath, upon being sworn into office – to withstand any and all acts of political threat and intimidation.
I have little doubt that the justices on the CA Supreme Court will do just that. I have little doubt that they will reach whatever decision they ultimately reach oblivious to these and all other threats. Moreover, I have little doubt that the recall will fail, electorally. However, it won’t fail politically, in terms of generating an ever-deepening trough of red-meat hate for the homophobes to use in their crusade against civil rights for Queers.
Let ‘em. Hate, intimidation, anger, threats. As it says in the Bible, “by their fruits, so shall ye know them.”
Lux Dreaming, Well I thank you for your civil tone and for your story. But you do represent the kind of narrative where you admit that you have no real God. It's just a nebulous thing that has no answers, by your own admission. It's a god of uncertainty not truth. And if you're honest with yourself and with me, a large reason you don't have a God of truth is for that very reason that he gets in the way of what you want to do. Now before I've called this the god of homosexuality, and I still think that's valid. But it's maybe more generally a god of your own self - a god that conforms to your will. I can't get past this point that I strongly suspect that your rejection of the Christian God comes down in a big way to homosexuality, and when you hear what his words are in the area, in a very basic way your answer is, "But I don't want to." Be honest with me here. You don't agree with him - the God is Israel, and when you're at that impasse you chose your way over his. Or you create a god that doesn't tell you to do things that you don't want to do. This nebulous god that you say is all questions and no answers, does he ever make you reach out of yourself, to sacrifice yourself or to do things that are hard? Let me put it another way. I assume that you don't steal, and that you know that lying is wrong. And I assume that you believe that has something to do with God and with what's right. Well does your god ask you to do things that you don't already do, even if he wasn't there? What it sounds like you've got is a god of your own morality and a god that does not lead you to anyplace that you aren't at already. If so that is hardly a god and certainly is not anything anymore lasting than today's newspaper. I will say it again, it's a god that doesn't take you to anyplace or any thought that you don't have already. It's a god that is not any bigger that your own ego. He may be in all the trees and stars and all that, but he certainly isn't very instructive in how to live, other than doing things that you already want to do or already believe in. A leader this god is not. I hope I'm not putting words in your mouth too much. I've substituted god for your word philosophy, but it's pretty much the same thing.
And I was pretty much like that for thirty years too. But at some point I wanted something more than a god that told me what I already knew. I was as out and pro-homosexuality as anyone could be. I used to say that it was the one constant in my life. I did not want to leave homosexuality behind but I could not be honest with myself and bend God to make him fit my agenda. And I couldn't be dishonest with myself and rip the Bible to shreds to make it fit my own pro-homosexual agenda. I knew what it said and I couldn't play little games to make it otherwise. I have more respect for people who discard the Bible entirely than who take a pair of scissors to it to make it into a pro-homosexual book. This took a huge amount of humility to get down on my knees and say I'm sorry and I was wrong. I am brought to my knees all the time still and it always is good for the soul.
Now everything seems different. It's not just that homosexuality is wrong. It's that this whole modern me-centered world is wrong. Anyone can see that unless the straight world had moved from a world of clear morality, of clear right and wrong, that homosexuality would not be an issue. What we have today is a society that prizes the ego and fun over responsibility and duty. It's life for the moment. Anything that gets in our way we reject. Can we wonder why our politicians and business leaders are crooks when none of us admit to anything that is really true. In a world of situational ethics, anything we want to do can be rationalized away as being right. If it's that way in our personal morality, there is no way that it won't be that way in our public morality.
I'm just saying that a god that is no bigger than myself cannot bring happiness when times are tough. You are no different than I was or than many other people are in America today. But the wonderful thing is that God still loves us no matter what we do. We may turn our backs on him but he never turns his backs on us. I hear it said a lot by homosexuals that God is love not hate. I suspect that feeling comes out of a feeling of being rejected by society. But it misses the point that God loves us so much that he doesn't want us to do thing that hurt us, and homosexuality certainly hurts us. You may have all the material things in life but by your own words, you do not have a real God in your life outside of one that tells you what you already know. I hope that when your time comes that you come to him on bended knee, because any god that is not deserving of that is not a God to be worshiped.

WOW! You completely missed my point...self awareness is the path to enlightenment...soul searching is the path to enlightenment. As for you putting words into my mouth...yes you did it in abundance. To say I'm insulted is an understatement...then again, it's not unexpected coming from someone such as yourself. Furthermore, to insinuate that my life is somehow empty or devoid of a greater purpose because I don't follow your belief system is condescending at best, and downright rude at worst. Lastly, your continued assertion that the reason I, and other gay people have turned away from christianity is because of homosexuality is laughable. Since I have actually studied the bible, I could go into a huge diatribe about the attrocities the bible condones (mysogeny, slave ownership, et. al), but since you've thrown yourself into the study of said book, I'll let you go look that up yourself.
So let's recap shall we....your sanctimonious, holier than thou condescention is revolting...morality and being a decent human being involved in spiritual enhancement does NOT mean a person must follow your's or anyone's particular "god"...THAT could be why people respond to you the way they do. Now, do yourself a favor, and go hang out on a message board where "deluded, destructive, misguided" queers don't have to read the shit you spew...perhaps some christian website would be a good idea, as they I'm sure would be happy to aid you in your flaggelation, all the while adding to their own sense of self righteousness at how christ like they're being by tolerating your gay ass.

Jed. I hate to point out the obvious, but if you are citing the Adam and Eve as evidence that marriage was not around before Christianity, then you are indeed stupid. Adam and Eve were married, if I remember correctly, some four thousand years before the birth of Christ. I find it very difficult to think that Adam and Eve had a good ol' Christian marriage millennia before that statement would make any kind of sense. They weren't even Jewish, they didn't have any of the things that made them Jewish. The texts and the laws and costums did not come about until Moses who was still thousands of years before there was any Christianity. I don't ask that you have everything correct, but can you at least make sense?
To all of you that believe that homosexuality is vile and wrong: I tried for many years to be a good little boy. I spent years begging God to give me just the slightest reprieve or sign that I was doing the right thing by staying in the closet. I looked for that sign when I was praying and reading scripture. Guess what. It never came. I spent years full of self-hate and shame. The irony is that I am sure that I have done more for the advancement for the kingdom of God since I quit being a scared little closet case.
And I don't think that it is unreasonable to want the government which we support to protect us. I am not saying we should force churches or any person that doesn't agree with it to recognize same sex marriage. So I honestly do not care whether or not you think that God would recognize it. I want a government that I pay my taxes to, and support, and would be subject to drafts offer me the same protection that it offers others.
Those of you who are born again. I envy you. I wish I had the ability to sacrifice myself so fully to something which I just have not been able to reconcile in my mind. I tried for a long time, I guess you are just stronger than I. I asked God repeatedly for the strength, but I guess he didn't want me as I had been.

just goes to show what Christians are like when they don't get their way. they respond again with vindictive threats of hate and recall.

Wow Lux, you really need to calm down, and be more objective! You have so much hatred in your heart, you're going to hate no matter what anybody says. Mark F. has not used the word "hate" or uttered the message of hate in any of his statements! You keep adding the "hate" factor in your rebuttals. Mark is simply stating his faith, just as you have stated your beliefs. Mark is not forcing his beliefs on anyone, he is simply stating the biblical truths. You can accept them as such, or not. The option is yours!

No Jed, not hate....annoyance...and I wasn't talking to you either...so do kindly butt out. Cheers.

I agree with JHolmes, that in a pluralistic society (which the US is), if 2 atheists, 2 baptists, and 2 buddhists are all protected by the same rights and are allowed to be married under the law, although the atheist and the buddist undoubtedly will not be using GOD in their ceremony (because marriage is a CIVIL right, not a religious one), then how can one particular group be denied that same right? Remember, not too long ago in our nation it wasn't legal to have interracial marriages, and before that blacks couldn't marry at all. Yet Prop 8 was passed overwhelmingly by the black community who voted over 90% in favor of P-8 when they turned out in droves to vote for Obama, who would never have supported this proposition. So, I think that some of our more racist states in the South and Midwest should put propositions on their ballots or constitutional amendments that say that interracial marriages are illegal again, and watch the blacks stand up screaming about how it's not right, then the gays should come out and say "you did it to us, we're voting against you". Maybe if they FINALLY get the point, that trampling on ANY minority's civil right is WRONG, no matter what your personal and religious beliefs are, things will finally be fixed in this nation. But it's going to take something crazy like that before it is ever realized.

MARK F :Does that stand for Mark Fuckhead!!!....Get a Fuckin life and stop infuriating people on this site.
Were you present at the moment when GOD gave his Word?...Or was your father there?...or even his father.
I fail to understand how people can believe in something so belligerently without having an iota of proof regarding the same.
I'm a hindu. Hinduism has more Gods than your pathetic little brain can even imagine. Yet my parents taught me that god is what you feel from your heart. Not a name, not a body...just a feeling of higher spirits.
My religion teaches me to tolerate....even fuckheads like you, with calm sensibilities, not spread hate, defy logic, deny science, and not learn and accept the TRUTH.
Truth being that being gay is NOT A CHOICE!!
I hate the fact that people in power modify the laws, holy texts to suit their on whims and fancies.
This is for everyone.....please just believe in love, live and let live....a humble request, yes even to you Mark F.

And oh my hly lord!!....Adam and eve......what the fuck happened to good ol' fuckin evolution...........4000 years before christ and all that shit....man are you seriously serious about this non scientific shit!!..Adam and eve...holy lord this is laughable...humans have been around for around a 100,000 years...we had no religion, no god!..as society progressed we CREATED god...so god in itself is our creation, and so are his WORDS!!
I know i sound like a hipocrit, but i do believe in a Higher power, only for those questions that FACTS fail to answer, and as facts keep answering my questions, i will ACCEPT those FACTS....something that Mark my boy you should learn to do.....be progressive and help a species evolve rather than drown the civilization in the deep chasms of regression.
GROW UP AND READ A SCIENCE BOOK........Adam and eve....oh my...i still cant stop laughing!!!!! .. :)

It just shows you that not all gays are created equal. Shit! the Adam and Eve's argument, and some nitwit even said they were married. I think I read the Bible wrong, but was there a priest, preacher, rabbi, etc. to bless their union?
On a lighter note, I am glad that gay.com has changed into a proper lady. No more pictures of half-naked men or ads to gay porns on its homepage(crosses my fingers). It takes the ban on gay marriage for gay.com to wake up, I wonder what'll happen to gay.com when America rescinds the lifts on sodomy laws. Maybe gay.com'll put up more activist's posts, and provide LGBT people with info that the vast majority, seeing from this postings, are ignorant of. Oh hey, if that don't work, one can always find out if Madonna and Guy Ritchie will be back together. One can only hope.

First we have Idiot #1, Jett, who cannot comprehend what he reads well enough to understand that it was the Religious Right crowd who was threatening a recall of the CA SC justices.
Then we have a whole slew of repressed homophobes who think that civil rights and Constitutional equality and Equal Protection are something which can be granted or removed by popular vote. This should NEVER have been a vote issue. It should never have been a State issue. This is a Civil Rights issue and, as such, a Federal subject. Indeed, the Federal government based in Washington, DC, has been responsible for protecting individuals' civil rights all along. That's the whole point of the Constitution – to protect the citizens from a tyrannical government, whether that be municipal, county, State or Federal.
All along, the Religious Right has claimed that gay people are promiscuous. Some twit on here said that, because of that, we don't “deserve” marriage. Tell that to the silent MAJORITY of homos who don't frequent the bars, don't hook up, don't cheat on their partners, and have been in committed relationships for years, sometimes decades and scores of years. It's the supreme irony that you'd claim that because we're all supposedly sluts, we shouldn't be allowed a recognition of commitment that supports staying together, exercising fidelity within our relationships. It's like that Episcopalian pastor said, the first order of business is to support committed, loving relationships. All of you WWJD thumpers? Jesus wouldn't say “Go your way and sin no more.” He'd rebuke you just as he rebuked Jesus and the others who tried to get on Mary for showing caring and compassion. But ya know what's even more important? It's not for the GOVERNMENT to say ANYTHING about what Jesus might or might not have done or said. That's not THEIR job. It's for them to protect ALL citizens equally.... which is the only reason I'm not moving to have hetero's right to Marriage (and all those benefits it incurs) pulled from the law. Technically, Marriage is a Church issue.
Since Marriage is a Church issue, you who oppose same-sex marriages are free to not grant that sacrament in your church. But unless you want us to start voiding your marriages unless you produce children, requiring that you remain in bad marriages your entire life, and having a woman “submit” to her husband, I'd advise you keep your Church out of our Government.
