Way to go AHNOLD! The lifting weights comparison was humorous, but true.

Proof positive that not ALL Republicans are against gays. Congratulations on being a progressive leader in a party that is currently lacking in leadership. I am a Republican and I'm thrilled to hear someone with party credibility speak on this issue with clarity and compassion. Thank you Gov.!

Wonderful! I'm starting to like this guy!!!

DO NOT trust this "man." He and his party have done NOTHING to help gays but plenty to harm us. He is now panicking about his re-election bid. He sees how strongly the gay community has reacted against the anti-gay marriage result and he's scared now that the gay vote will push him out of office.
DO NOT BE FOOLED ! Actions speak louder than words ! He is not our friend, he is our enemy.

I hate to say it....I've always been a big fan of Arnolds.
Both Acting and political......
However, It did also cross my mind about speaking out now and his future re-election bid.
Did he do or say anything before the vote to help ?
I'd say look at the big picture and try to make an educated decision before casting that vote.

Hm.... Sounds all good... Lil confusing though.
Posted by: Joey | November 10, 2008 at 04:50 PM
He is correct, after 10 times, 11th time is the charm. By 2050 we shall overturn this proposition!
Posted by: ejrin | November 10, 2008 at 04:52 PM
Are we forgetting that this is the same guy that TWICE vetoed legislative approval of gay marriage in California? At the time he rode the fence by saying, counter to every other re-dumb-lican in the country, that the courts should decide the issue. It's just another volley in the "please, everybody vote for me" game he plays.
Posted by: Patrick Lollis | November 10, 2008 at 04:56 PM
Arnold opposed a ballot initiative in California this year to make a few small improvements for animals on factory farms in California. All the bill would have done is increase cage space for egg-laying hens (currently they cannot even span one wing), ban pig gestation crates, and ban veal crates. Arnold has got to go!
Posted by: Aaron | November 10, 2008 at 05:17 PM
Cage space for hens? Are you serious?
It's a shame Arnold wasn't born in the USA. He'd make a fine President.
I'm confused how Arnold would be concerned about his re-election bid. Due to term limits, he is ineligible to run for Governor again. The man is just speaking his mind.

Although I do not believe in marriage. I do believe we have the right to do what we want, as long as it does not hurt anyone. I do not see how marriage can hurt anyone. I say, marriage whoever you want. I hope those people on the steps of city hall get what they truely want in life---fairness, to be treated as a human being. Good luck to those out there!
Posted by: Carlos | November 10, 2008 at 06:21 PM
DO NOOT Trust Him!
He was the one that VETOED Gay Marriage with the stroke of a pen TWICE!!... now he wants to be re-elected...
Shame on you Arnold!
Posted by: Adam Allans | November 10, 2008 at 06:43 PM
Gay.com you want our opinion? Adam Allans said it. He vetoed the right of Gay Citizens to marry twice. What's he talking about now? Why do you want us to tell you? Are you going to tell Arnold?
Posted by: Sargon Bighorn | November 10, 2008 at 06:58 PM
Arnold is a politician and a snake. He will say ANYTHING to get re-elected. He thrives on publicity and has to have it as much as oxygen because he has an out of control ego. Look at what he has done against gays all this time in office ! Don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth.
ACTIONS speak louder than words my friends and his ACTIONS have been damaging to gay people throughout his entire political career.
A leopard does not change it's spots !

Maybe I'm just not picking up on this but whatever happened to the whole 'seperation of church and state'? Like I said maybe everybody is saying stuff about this and I'm just missing those articles.
Posted by: mdha02 | November 10, 2008 at 07:48 PM
The majority of money which funded our opposition came from organized religions. Now, any gays who go to church need to remember that when they ask you for money.
If organized religion is going to start to influence laws such as this then it's time they paid tax. If they don't want to pay tax then they should keep out of politics. They invest money on the stock market, they pay high salaries and they are profit making (even if they don't admit it) so how are they any different from other businesses ? It's time we campaigned to get them to pay tax and then they would quickly start retreating from politics !
Posted by: Glenn Lennox, Fort Worth, Texas | November 10, 2008 at 08:15 PM
To the comment above: You are so right, Glenn Lennox. I never thought about that. Giving money to the church? I have a total new view on that. Why fund someone who hates or discourages fairness in this world? I bet if all gay men and women in this world stopped going to church because of this, things would be different, and those church leaders would beg politicians to change the law on marriage. As I have become more educated, currently working on my masters, I have thought more about gay rights. I never really payed any attention, even as a gay man. But now I feel like moving to Toronto.
Posted by: Carlos | November 10, 2008 at 09:46 PM
Not bad, but he never really said what he himself thinks of marriage for all. He just gave a prediction of what will play out, not really any different from anyone else that's been making predictions. I would have liked to have seen him take a definitive stance on it from his personal point of view, not from a "don't say anything too polarizing" political point of view.
Posted by: Matt | November 10, 2008 at 10:00 PM
If you want to get married come to Canada! But then again not everyone can do that!! Arnold made a point that rings true. Your supreme court will rule that this law is unconstitutional and will sooner or later be crushed. It is only a matter of time. So i think that truth be told, which ever way he frames his argument, the constitution of the state i assume, will come to haunt every political figure that is pushed by the christian right and who is unable to understand a simple law, everyone equal under the eyes of the law.

The FACTS:
In 2005, the California state legislature passed the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act which would have recognized same-sex marriage in California.[28] The Act marked the first time that a state legislature had approved a bill authorizing same-sex marriage without a court order.[30]
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger later VETOED the Act. This Governor's press secretary Margita Thompson stated, “[t]he governor believes the matter should be determined not by legislative action – which would be unconstitutional – but by court decision or another vote of the people of our state.” [31]
In 2007, Schwarzenegger again VETOED the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act.
- ACTIONS speak louder than WORDS!

Why stop at just limiting our right to get married?
Why not just round all of us up, even the gay people who are in the closet and put us all together and murder us.
After all, we aren't human beings with the same rights as "straights", we are degenerates who want to molest their children and of course "destroy marriage".
Yes, you should blame the 50% divorce rate on us "gays". Must be that 1/2 of all the men who get married to a woman are really gay, so "protecting" us gays from getting married to eachother REALLY helps you str8 homophobes out ALOT!
You know what America is? It's EVERYTHING that is the OPPOSITE of why it was created in the first place. People fled their country to be able to have RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, not to allow religion to control this country.
Seperation of church and state? What a sham. Why should politicians do that when their voting base are religious zealots? That wouldn't be good "business".
America is soo behind amongst progressive countries it is a joke. Are str8 people really soo TERRIFIED that if they even admit to the idea that they could possibly, even fractionally find their own sex attractive that they will become gay?
Also, enough with the procreation line of bullshit. We don't need any more children in this world, we need LESS. Str8 people are an OBSTACLE to the world and the environment, shooting out children like spreading a disease to the four corners of the world. Children who stress the environment unncessary. Did you ever see these shows were people have 17 children? It's an abomination. They should be lined up and shot.
Not only is it a ridiculous abuse of procreation it's disgusting to bear children like an animal who can not help themselves. We are humans after all, learn a measure of self control, this is not 2000 BC this is 2008 AD.
In summary it does not matter whether you want to get married to another man now or ever, the point is you are not a human being to these str8 people, you are nothing, you are trash and deserve to be killed in their eyes.
Believe it or not some of these people are BLACK and LATINO men and women who themselves were discriminated against. You do know that black people were only considered to be 1/5 of a real human being at one time. If most people now find that appauling and disgusting and archaic then why is there a difference if you are truly attracted to the your own sex?
Do these people honestly think ANYONE would choose to be ridiculed and tortured (ie: Matthew Shepard) and treated like vermin if we honestly had any HONEST choice in who we chose to want to be with?
I suppose they would just prefer we hold it in and live a LIE, forget whatever it says in the "bible" about lying. That must be why so many Catholic priests do molest children, they have no other outlet to vent their natural instinct.
Last thing I have to say, and you should be saying this to your politicians. If we are not humans, not REAL AMERICANS with equal rights then why should we gay people pay taxes? Why should YOU pay the same and MORE tax than a str8 man with a bunch of screaming brats pays when he has rights YOU DO NOT. Why? If you are not a FULL MEMBER then why are you paying FULL TAXES???
Tell your politicans, tell your senators, your representatives, your governors, tell President elect OBAMA that you won't pay full taxes until you are treated like a FULL AMERICAN.
Let's see how quickly the thought of losing trillions of dollars would so quickly change their minds about treating us like garbage.
NO TAXATION WITHOUT EQUAL RIGHT!!!!

Umm.. what do straight people think their kids are watching when they go gaga over High School Musical 3?
A bunch of straight guys? Get a clue people.
Then again maybe if Hollywood stopped lying to straight people tehy would get it through their head that most if not all of their celebrity icon men are GAY GAY GAY.
It's certainly obvious to any person with an ounce of gaydar.

One ? Mr. Governor where were you prior to the election? Why didn't you speak out on this until now?

One thing he knows is "How to Win Elections". Take notice of what he said: the pro-gay anti-Prop 8 campaign was not as well organised, run or funded as its opposition. The message being ????

Mike, please list what exactly Clinton lied about his first day in office. Please back up what you say.
Actually, I believe he was the first president to even Speak Our Name ! Don't ask Don't tell may not have turned out so great, but at least he did something. For the fist time in ages this country had a balanced budget.
MIKE, please post the Stats on how much money Clinton and Bush approved for aids ???
I have learned from the Republicans....just because someone writes or says something, does not mean it's true.
As far as I am concerened the only lie I know of from Bill Clinton was about a Blow Job!
It should have remained between him and his wife.
McCain, dumped his first wife after she became disabled. To marry a rich woman. That was after the first wife stood by him during and after he was a POW.
They all preach morals, and hump anything that moves.
Then deny us basic rights that are in the constitution.
We must "LIVE OUT LOUD"
Posted by: JR | November 11, 2008 at 09:40 AM
It's time gays grew some balls and took a stand. Stop going to churches that fund this hate. Stop giving them money. Act like adults - you do NOT need religion enough to sell out your basic human rights.
Religion should be about bringing people together and NOT just pushing the Republican party agenda.
Next time you put your hand in your pocket to give money at church remember that the money you are giving (YOUR money) will probably be used by YOUR own religious leaders to ensure that they can keep YOU as a second class citizen.
Are you really that stupid ?
Do you really think so little of yourselves ????
Find out where your church invests it's money. What companies is it investing in ? What are the policies of these companies ? I can guarantee that most of the companies your churches are investing in have policies that are opposite of what your preacher tells you in church on Sunday. Organized religion is a business like any other business and they are very willing to abandon their beliefs when there is money to be made. A great example is the Church of England who were, at one time, the biggest investors in the international nuclear arms race but chose not to reveal this to the people who attended their churches each week.
I'm not asking you to become an atheist. You can still be a believer in God without giving money to these people. If you want to see an excellent example of someone who lives his life as a Christian every single day - and NOT just on a Sunday - look no further than Jimmy Carter. Read his books. He's a great man, 100% Christian and he supports gays and lesbians. He doesn't feel the need to belong to one of these corrupt religions. He knows that God doesn't belong to a corrupt religion. I'm sure there are similar examples in other religions too. My point is, DON'T buy the crap that organized religion is trying to sell you. Don't be a sheep ! If you actually took the time to read the Bible you will see that it tells you to regularly question it's contents and not to just accept it.
Being a believer is not about being a member of a church - especially not one that funds hate.
Posted by: Glenn Lennox, Fort Worth | November 11, 2008 at 12:39 PM
I am in shock! I thought he was one of those ridiculous Republicans who feel they can force others to live according to their beliefs. This is not a question of religion, no matter how hard people try. If it is about the Bible, there are different interpretations to the Leviticus quote they use to support their own bigotry. In addition, what about religions that have no problem with marriage equality or gay rights? What about those who don't believe in religion or God? This country cannot force people to live according to backwards Christian views. Keep in mind, the same book also says that slavery is okay, wife beating is okay, stoning people to death for stealing is okay, and the list goes on and on. So, why aren't these same people following those views? This is what we call progress. Freedom does not belong to certain groups of people, it belongs to everyone. This is a matter of freedom and I am tired of hearing that people in this country are free. No we are not. There are tens of millions of people suffering from religious bigotry in a country where religion is supposed to remain separate from politics and law. Regardless of what people may think or how they may feel, if civil rights were up for a vote, women and black would not be where they are today. This is a legal issue; one which no one has a right to vote on.

Glenn Lennox, You are your own enemy! Grow up! Go to Koolaid Drinkers Anonymous! You're so drunk on the Democratic Koolaid you are blinded by the facts. Arnold has appointed more gay and lesbian individuals to boards and commissions than any previous governor. He has publicly supported many issues that affect the gay community. Get over your HATE and vitriole. It is disgusting and dispicable.

the real threat to "marriage"..is divorce make that illegal(yeah right)..str8s would go crazy if that happend
Posted by: jeff | November 11, 2008 at 03:47 PM
Republicans are so wierd. First they are against it. Now you got this crazy nook trying to stick up for homosexuals. Screw that he is just worried about getting re-elected.
Posted by: Stephen Banks | November 11, 2008 at 04:22 PM
Amazing how gullible some folks are. This is the same Arnold that twice vetoed gay marriage, and waited until 24 hours before the Prop 8 vote to issue a terse, short statement against it. Arnold the man doesn't have a problem with gay marriage...but Arnold the Republican Politician can't be trusted to look out for our best interests. Don't be fooled.
Posted by: Jeff | November 11, 2008 at 05:11 PM
I really don't know why I bother to read through some of these comments. First, Arnold is not worried about reelection. He can't get reelected; his term is up. As for his vetoes on the previous gay marriage measures, I'm not surprised. He said leave it up to the courts or the people. While I don't think it should have been left it up to the people, I'm not surprised by his opinion. California would have been the first state to pass a law allowing gay marriage. But after the CA Supreme Court judges overturned Prop 22 this past May, he came out right away and said he supports the Court's decision. And now he's coming out and saying he wants the Court to overturn Prop 8. I'm glad he's keeping the same stance.
