"Ex-Gay" Billboard Snatched Faster Than A Bad Wig

ExgaysbillboardP-FOX (Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays) didn't pay Clear Channel one red cent to post an offensive "non revenue" billboard in Tuscon. The so-called not-for-profit organization says they support families and advocates for the ex-gay community.

No sooner than the advertisement was up, the gay community in southern Arizona rallied to LGBT organizations like Wingspan to have the billboard removed. Wingspan told local reporters that they received numerous e-mails and phone calls from the gay community, as well as others who are not gay.

The ad was taken down three days later.

KVOA, the local Tucson station that broke the news, tried to contact Clear Channel and got this reply: "They told us once they knew there was a problem they removed the billboard within three hours. They also told us they have supported numerous gay sponsored activities in the past including Aidswalk."

The billboard has since been replaced with a Dr. Pepper ad.

Our hats (and wigs) are off to you, Tucson! Thanks for quickly taking action ...

Seriously?! I'm glad the billboard got yanked so fast, but I am rather shocked that it was put up at all. Stupidity really is rampant in this country.

Did anyone besides me see that guy on the ex-billboard at NYC's Boybar last Saturday night?

I don't like the looks of that AD at all. I believe they're wrong!
BUT.. Who are we or anyone else to tell these people they're wrong?
It's pretty hypocritical of any free thinking American to tell someone what they can and can not do! It's certainly not illegal.
They should be able to have their sign. Even tho you and I may not like it.

justme

Sure... they should have a right to post the sign, but people also have a right to email the company that owns the sign and express their offense. Likewise the company has the right to take it down. Seems like the whole situation went down exactly as it should have.

Once, while I was traveling from one coast of the US the other, I ended up in Washington DC. I was actually living on a couch of a friend whom I had met during my travels.

Well, my friend had 2 other roommates whom I discovered that they had all met in a 'Homosexual anonymous' group. I had to laugh at first, I've never heard of such an organization. But, apparently, it's a growing group to help homosexuals go back into a heterosexual life.

One of the roommates, an older fellow - was originally from the south, hated me. Did not like the idea that my friend had invited me into this home. I feel that this roomie felt that I would bring my friend out of the closet.

One evening, all 4 of us gathered into the kitchen to have dinner, and the other 2 roomies were listening to a radio program. On it was a commentary [apparently well known on the east coast], preaching his views in a very news-reporter style. In his commentary, he was reciting how homosexuality was wrong...he used bible quotes...He versed historical quotes and examples. While listening, I couldn't help but laugh. The more I listened, the more ignorant I thought this guy was.

Well, the other 2 roomies were getting a little upset by my actions. I quickly apologized then asked if they really believe everything this man was saying on the radio! The younger one [who was close to my age] had agreed that there was some merit to what was being said. The southerner said that EVERYTHING that man was saying on the radio was REAL! It was TRUTH!

well...I had to laugh. I could see that the more that roomie from the south - with the southern accent - kept talking, the more heated he was getting. So, at one point, I was now laughing hysterically - Then, I watched that man, march right upstairs, come back down [you could hear his hard thumping footsteps], walk straight up to me, and threw HOLY WATER all over my body!

I was shocked!

He started trying to do an excorcism on me. Now, you know I laughed even harder at this!

I didn't mean to laugh. But, if you saw these two, and the situation, I'm sure you would've been rolling.

So, reading this post reminded me of that story - and since I'm in a writing mood - I wanted to share it.

I personally think Billboards are ugly and tacky. It interferes with the view of where ever you are at.

As far as the whole "Ex-gay" thing [and Homosexuals Anonymous], Then, I don't get it. Gay people are born gay.

I can't go to a "Pacific Islander Anonymous" because i want to be another race. I was born Hawn-Jap and I will forever be that.

Nuff Said...

"Ex-Gay"? I am glad I HAVE A REAL LIFE! The "ex-gay" b.s. is a CULT! These very SAME idiots that run this crap are themselves GAY, GAY, GAY! Only, THEY TOO have NO self-respect or self-love.

In regards to the billboard, PFOX and others like them, have a right to their opinion.
