My Two Penguin Daddies

Penguins Gay adoption opponents, listen up: a pair of gay penguins in a Chinese zoo have been given their own eggs to raise, and according to zookeepers, "they've turned out to be the best parents in the whole zoo". (Just wait: next year they'll have their own iceberg for a gay-family cruise line.)

The road to parenthood for these two, however, hasn't been easy. According to the Daily Mail, the couple had to be separated from the rest of their colony in China's Polar Land after stealing other penguins' eggs. In fact, these two were so cunning they would waddle up to their unsuspecting fellow penguins and pull the ol' switcharoo with their egg and a rock. Brilliant.

Animal rights activists objected following the couple's expulsion, claiming  'It wasn't fair to stop them becoming parents and keep them apart from all the other birds just because of the way nature has made them.'

Zookeepers agreed, saying, "'One of the responsibilities of being a male adult is looking after the eggs. Despite the fact that they can't have eggs naturally, it does not take away their biological drive to be a parent". They handed over the two eggs of an inexperienced first-time mother (if they are looking for names for the hatchlings, might I suggest Jayden James and Sean Preston?)

I saw this on Will & Grace like five years ago.

Blade

That was a different pair (and different species) of penguins; looks like penguin gayness is happening a lot more frequently now hahahaha ;)

Kuffpah

I think it's because of the permissive attitudes of society toward homosexuality and the start of proliferation of gay marriage.

Now, those perverts are recruiting large flightless water fowl?! Won't *SOMEbody* think of the *PENguins!*

Bremerhaven

I am living in Bremerhaven, Germany.
Our zoo has a gay penguine couple as well - they have been living here for a long time and media has made many stories about them^^

JT

It's all because they made 'em dress up in a tux all the time instead of manly clothes.

I've seen Religious Right types so desperate to cling to their beliefs (in the presence of facts to the contrary) that when they say it's unnatural, and I point to the many examples of homosexuality in the animal kingdom, they say that Satan (or Adam) corrupted them too, by bringing Sin into the world.

Ya can lead a closet case to the baths, but ya can't make him... Whatever, you get the drift.:)

Wyatt1969again

I love penguins.

And now I am going to have some Turkey.

Turkeys are notoriously Straight!

Hence the poly-cotton blend sheets – the Budweiser – and the conspicuous charges on the Cable Bill listing a fee of $4.99 per Adult Cinema selection.

No – just kidding Turkey’s.

I love you too!

Merry Chrizizzle (That’s fancy talk for Christmas ya’ll)!

Big Gay Penguin

Just because things happen in nature doesn't mean they're intended for the human race.

Dogs eat their own vomit and the feces of other animals, for example. Some species force an unwilling partner to have sex (in essence, rape). Many species eat weak newborns.

These particular birds are thieves for stealing another bird's egg. Should gay men, therefore, be encouraged to go out and steal a baby if they want one badly enough?

Having said that, among penguins as a whole, it's exclusively the males who care for the eggs. If these two males seem tight, it's because the hard-wired nature of all male penguins is to huddle around the egg or eggs to preserve warmth.

The species of penguin is not mentioned, so I'm not going to assume much more than this except that male penguins are the ones who take care of the eggs and the males huddle/snuggle/cluster around to keep the egg warm. It's a matter of necessity for survival of the species.

Gay? No. The males are just doing what all males of their species do.

I'm all for any adoption if the parent or parents can provide for the child's needs. Having said that, the penguin analogy is off the mark. People aren't penguins and penguins aren't people. It's barely even an apples and oranges comparison, much less directly analogous.

Kathleen

Now I'm beginning to understand the fascination my partner has with penguins. I thought it was just a phase she was going through after I told her about the first coverage of the gay penguins. Now our house is filling up with them! I think she is substituting them for the babies she really wanted to have with me....until we figured out the batteries on our biological clocks had worn out. So gay egg-stealing fake penguins will have to do. And with that...Hope everyone is staying warm and dry wherever you are in this winter wonderland season. Let the festivities begin!

stephen

The penguins shown in this story are not the gay penguins.

These penguins are Kayla and Oscar from a British Zoo. Their new born son "Toga" was stolen from the zoo back in 2006.

The pictures were to show how distraught the mom and dad were in hopes the thief would bring back the penguin.

The penguins shown are also jackass (or SOuth African) penguins.

philnc

Wyatt1969 stated "...that it's exclusively males who care for the eggs." Actually, penguins mate for life and it is an equal responsibility of both to take care of the egg and young once it hatches. For several months the male hunts and stores food to share with its young one in the colony. When he returns, the female leaves to hunt and store food to share with the young one upon her return. (Life in a zoo changes the order of things but the natural order is for both parents to care for the young.)

If an egg be destroyed or young one should die it is customary for the caregiving parent in the colony to try to steal another egg or young one to raise. It's not a pretty sight.

The point of all these stories seems to be that the sexual orientation of parents makes no difference in raising the young. That's the wonder of nature in the animal kingdom -- of which man is a part.

JosephHfx

Cute story. It's almost as good as the mother tiger whose cubs had died so the zoo keepers had her adopt baby piglets.
If animals can be tolerant enough to adopt another species, and to live amongst a pair of openly gay penguins, then why can't humans?
Diversity is the key to success. If some people are too stupid to realize this , that I feel sorry for them.

TT

If it were only so easy for us to get a baby as replacing babies with rocks... hehe

Chemosh

Gay penguins, gay chimps, gay cattle, almost every species has known same gender mating. No suprise that it is "natural" whatever the hell that means. And the fact that two of anything or one for that matter can be a good parent ..big suprise there too? But the real test would be if any species aside from humans could dream up themselves a religion to make it a sin and kill or ostracize the same gender couple. Now that would be a feat!

Wyatt1969again

Ehem ehem.

Correction:

It was – I suspect – one Clarke Hamlin who said that “Philnc”.

But since I am here I would like to point a few things out as well (I thought you’d understand).

Everyone needs to back the fuck off the Penguins BRAH!

I say, “If they’re happy – leave’m be”.

Next to that I would like to remind all of us - we are stewards of the planet. WE raise the young of a great man species outside of our own. WE imprint ourselves, as if to append an otherwise misconstrued identity, on many animals who have no family of their own.

Why then is it so hard to do this within our own race – amongst our many brothers and sisters?

The baby Penguin (let’s name it Chauncey) et al - deserves a family.

So do our children.

Straight people aren’t lining up to adopt kids left and right and those children belong to us all.

Sorry kids – Straight people have decided best that you stay here and grow up in a dormitory until you’re 18 – at which point you will be asked to leave.

Wyatt1969again

Sorry everyone.

I forgot to add a "Y" to many.

It's Chauncey's fault.

whatischoice

Ok a bit out of place it may be but here goes. Im tired of assholes telling me that I chose to be gay......im guessing like the blacks and the indians and the native americans chose not to have pasty white skin.....right? I am over the "christian" freaks who actually choose their lifestyle as i have been accused far to often of doing myself. Choice last i knew meant you had a selection of things and picked one......to bad i as well as many people aparently missed the selection (options) part of the choosing game. This is why i chose not to be christian after growing up in a very Lutheran (diet coke of catholic) background and to rather be a believer in higher power. That means i dont need the effin book full of mans words!

u r boring

Wyatt1969again, you talk too fuckin' much. Shut your dick licker already.

Wyatt1969again

Oh “u r boring” you’re just jealous and bitter and single.

Or maybe you’re not and sweet and taken?

So since it's Christmas “U” – I would like to dedicate this to – well – YOU – “u r boring”.

YAWN (mouth wide open).

Oh and…

Knock knock

Who’s there?

You are!

You are – who?

“u r NO ONE Mr. boring” – that’s who!

Here’s another…

Last night – when I was done fucking your Dad up the ass - he told me I didn’t do as good of a job as you did (so you see - you are better than me at something).

Of course I said to him, “Noooooo!”

And he said, “Don’t believe me? – Just ask my wife!”

Oh and…

Check this out Brah! – When you finally do grow up and realize that anyone has the right to speak and be heard – you’ll be ready to move on from plastic blow up dolls.

How’s that for exciting! – uh- Mr.Boring?

Wish you were here,

I really do.

Gay.com needs to read a couple of wyatts post see how high his insanity level is and then never again care enough to read what he post. They should be deleted as soon as they become posted!

Wyatt1969again

You fool –

Call me crazy…or insane!

But at least I take the time to read over what I am about to “post” before “posting” it.

Because when someone “posts” a message – he or she usually attempts to employ some type of structure.

Now it’s true Jay – sometime Wyatt not happy with mean people…

So Wyatt maybe say thing not too nice…

For example…Wyatt no like people who not take time to put “s” on end of word: post.

Clearly – if not for the sake of better communication then perhaps for that of sparing everyone from your not so refined ability to write – you might at least take the time to proof read what you have to say before you say it. Of course when I say, “say” - I mean write a comment or an article and then post it.

And finally Jack Ass Jay –

I’m not insane. I’m a fucking genius.

I stopped going to school when I was in the 6th grade and then was forced to attend in the 9th grade after moving to the state of Washington until freeing myself when I was 15. Latter I went on to attend various universities for nine and one half years.

I found the precipice of knowledge to be such that flavor without color lends to that opaque gastronomy nothing but a bitter, sallow and uninviting taste of salt.

I prefer sugar.

Now I know I aint perfect – but you really must forgive my license.

Feel better Jay?

Wyatt1969again

I left Latter in their 4 u J.

LOL

jay

Lol... Your still fucking crazy nobody cares about your post burn in hell

Wyatt1969again

The lights dim…

The curtain opens…

The orchestra slowly builds with an exciting crescendo…

BAM!

SPOTLIGHT ON!!!

WYATT steps out in a Bob Mackie original – not barrowed from Cher! – but stolen from Tina Turner no less (Sorry Anna – love ya lots!) with legs shaved and emerald Choo’s hoisting his Quarterback ass up another 4 fucking inches…BROADWAY!!!

I!

Bshhh!

JUST!

Bshhh!

GOTTA!

Bshhh !

BE!

Bshhh!

MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Yahhhhhhhh (Fosse!).

p.s.

I love penguins – even straight penguins.

Merry Christmas everyone!

daddy_bear54

Like it or not, the truth is that homosexuality occurs in many species in nature. I do not beleive sexual orientation is learned or chosen by any species of beings, including humans. Why would anyone choose to be gay in the backward and bigoted societies of this world.

It took people hundreds of years to get their heads out of their asses and realize that people who are left-handed are not evil, posseses or corrupt and did not choose to be left-handed. I know from my own family that my grandmother forced my aunt's teachers to force her to write with here right hand even though she was left-handed. Add the meddling of organized religion to the ignorance that already exists and you have a formula for trouble.

I want to go on record as saying that I am not without religion myself, but that does not mean I condone or approve of many things that have been done historically and are currently being done by organized religion.

phillipeb

In response to Wyatt1969again:

The point of comparing penguin behavior to human behavior is not to say elusively that the behavior is natural, but rather that the trait of homosexuality is not unique to human kind. Also without the base understand and psychological complexity of humans these penguins "naturally" are homosexualities. It is more a means to illustrate that the opposite of what is currently espoused by the religious right can be true. When we are only concerned with human models of evolutionary biology and societal practice we have no test or control group in which to attribute traits to. The animal kingdom in which we are a part of provides that control by the shear nature of not being included in society that some claim produces homosexuality through nurture instead of nature.
