Point-Counterpoint: Beer or Something Harder?

Vodkamartini_2 Let's cut to the chase: do most gay men drink beer, or do they stick to the hard stuff? An informal poll around the Gay.com offices yielded some surprising results, so we decided to explore the topic of potent potables a bit more.

Hot Topics writer Joe Moag is a Mid-western beer drinker, dammit -- and he's just written a piece about the joys of beer.  Clarke Hamlin, on the other hand is a gay man who wouldn't be caught dead drinking a beer, and he loves nothing more than a cold, crisp and clear vodka.

Here's where you come in.  Read Joe and Clarke's point-counterpoint and then tell us whose side you're one!

Beer all the way baby! And by beer, I mean good beer, not that watered down swill like Bud, Miller Lite or Coors. I'm talking good, dark, rich beer like an awesome porter or stout.

My favorite, Terrapin Brewery's Wake-n-Bake Oatmeal Stout! Hard to find but SO WORTH IT!!!!

OK, so where's the choice for "I don't drink alcohol"? This survey assumes that every gay man drinks. How stereotypical.

Green guy

I'm a scotch drinker and I'm so glad someone asked!

A: It has no carbs
B: I can sip one scotch for at least an hour -- money saver.
C: If I don't eat any sugar the rest of the night, I have no hangover.
D: My own opinion, but I *enjoy* the faint smell/taste of Scotch on a guy's tongue.

I vote for the hard stuff.

SO... This is why the recent changes at gay.com have made things so screwed up lately... everyone has been too drunk while they evaluate beer vs "The hard stuff" (What about WINE???)
Perhaps you gentlemen should spend a little more time bringing back the "Ignore" feature in the chat rooms & a little less time chugging Schlitz!

As a former bartender in a gay club I can testify that the hard liquor drinkers far outweigh the beer drinkers, with vodka being #1 and scotch following closely behind. And most guys will stick with their faves; for instance it's very rare that that guy who always orders Bud Lite will surprise you by ordering a cosmo.

My personal fave: gin (preferably Sapphire) and tonic. I'll only drink beer (my faves: Red Hook or Gordon Biersch Martzen) when I'm detoxing from too much gin.

Beer, beer, beer! Humboldt Hemp Ale, a good NorCal brew.

Adam, that Terrapin Wake-n-Bake Oatmeal sounds great! Unfortunately we don't get Terrapin on the West coast.

SOme of us are intelligent enough to realize what alcohol does to our systems. We do not NEED to destroy ourselves to have a festive evening.
You perpetuate negative gay role models and encourage destructive behaviors when you print stories like this!

Scotch Wiskey and Patron Tequila is always the best on a night out in Brownsville, Texas!!

apolonass

WHISKEY (green guy said it ALL) and occasionaly some pot, but I don't understand what's this have to do with being gay???

OMG Why does it even matter, or why do we even care? I mean, we're not alcohol or liquor companies, are we (or are you being paid by Absolut to conduct this little poll of yours?)? So then, why all the fuss?

And for that matter, what about those who prefer malt beverages, or liqueurs, as opposed to "beer" and "hard alcohol"? And of course, then there's the "I'm not really a drinker" choice that's missing ...

So if you're going to conduct a COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS POLL, at the very least, try to provide all of the relevant options to your irrelevance!

islandgecko

This was a fun posting. Everyone's response tells you that - there are some guys/girls out there who are just the party peopleZ!! And then, there are some posting that shows us who are the ones who don't drink and take light hearted postings like this one - a little too seriously.

:]

I agree with the above; cut these silly stories and make gay.com actually work again without all these constant outages; you are slowly killing off your entire base!!!
