Should California Legalize Marijuana?

Marijuana A California lawmaker is causing a stir with his contention that his state should legalize marijuana for recreational use. (FYI: Medical marijuana has been legal in California since 1996.)

"I'm a martini guy myself," Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, who introduced a bill to legalize pot in the state this week, said at a press conference. "But I think it's time for California to…look at this in a truly deliberative fashion."

Op-ed: San Diego Firefighters Win Suit over Gay Pride Harassment

Firefighter Four San Diego Firefighters have sued the city of San Diego for being forced by the City to participate in a Gay Pride Parade and, while participating in that parade, being sexually harassed.  The four have won their suit, collecting around $34,000.

The City required the firefighters to ride on an engine and participate in the parade as representatives of the City.  During the parade, the firefighters claimed they were subjected to pervasive sexual harassment in the form of lewd gestures, comments, “cat-calls," etc., from the parade’s participants and spectators.

Gay GOP MN Lawmaker to Vote Against Marriage Equality

Paul Koering Openly gay Minnesota State Senator Paul Koering has announced that he intends to vote against a bill in that state’s legislature that would create gender neutral marriage laws, thus creating marriage equality for LGBT Minnesotans.

Sen. Koering has stated that he feels that the state of Minnesota has bigger problems to face than marriage equality and, I guess, than LGBT equal rights under the law.  Moreover, the Senator is quoted as saying:

Facebook Caves In Over Terms Of Service Backlash

Facebook 3 Facebook has done an about-face, reverting back to its original terms of service.

As you likely heard, Facebook recently made a substantial change in the language of its terms of service, giving Facebook the rights to use your content—including photos and videos—any way it wants into eternity, even after your account is closed.

Kanye On All Things "Gay"

Kanye West Never one to back away from a sound bite, Kanye West continues his flirtation with all things gay by declaring that calling something "gay" should be considered the ultimate compliment.

To which I say, um...thank you? I mean, Kanye is the arbiter of cool, at least according to him. And his new interview with Details magazine illustrates in almost awkward detail how comfortable West is embracing his inner diva: at one point he gets a wild hair that he must have flowers delivered pronto, and they must adhere to his rigid design aesthetic; we also learn of his near-obsession with getting an internship at a top design house.

Gay Mayor's Ex Bares All

Zach sireAdvocate.com is reporting that Portland Mayor Sam Adams' former gay lover, Beau Breedlove, will be featured in a nude photo spread for the April issue of Unzipped magazine.

This past January, Adams confirmed he'd had an affair with Breedlove back in 2005, when the then 18 year old was working as an intern.

Michigan TV Station Pulls Anti-Gay Special

Hrc-logo Yesterday, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) issued a national action alert, calling on the LGBT community to contact WOOD-TV, a Grand Rapids, Mich. television station, and demand it pull a television special produced by the American Family Association (AFA) and full of anti-gay propaganda off its upcoming schedule.

Within an hour of HRC's announcement of its national action alert, WOOD-TV did just that.

Score one for LGBT progress.
