Wine: Bottle, Box or ... Can?
Would you drink wine from a can? Would you be upset if your name was Stan? Would you eat chicken under the stairs? Could you go through life without any cares?
Ok, so maybe we should leave the clever rhyming to Dr. Seuss, but when I asked the question about drinking wine from a can, it just begged to let our inner Cat in the Hat out (OMG, did I just out the Cat?). So, would you drink wine from a can?
Until recently most people, with the exception of your Aunt Judy, scoffed at the idea of even drinking wine from a box. But there's been a breakthrough in the last couple of years -- even major wine publications are promoting the idea -- and hey, if you haven't tried the Wine Box from Target, you are seriously depriving yourself. The sangria is killer.
So when presented with a "bottle can" of 2007 Mommessin Beaujolais Grande Reserve I was a little, well, remiss in thinking it would be good. But ye olde adage to not judge thy book by thy cover came to bite us in the ass because this stuff was actually pretty good. It was bright, light and fruity, but not sweet; think strawberry, raspberry and maybe even some cinnamon.
And it even has a clever marketing hook: wine in a can (well, this can) is actually eco-friendly -- the aluminium is 100 percent recyclable and lighter than glass, so it's easy to transport those long distances without the added weight (ok, you know how it is the morning after eating that extra piece of chocolate cake? It's harder to drag your ass out of bed and to the gym? The glass bottle is your ass in this example). And you put the wine in the fridge. Put red wine in the fridge? Is Aunt Judy coming over? Yes, you do and no she isn't -- and when it's chilled, the "cooldot" on the can turns blue. Good wine and something fun to do while you wait to drink, because it's only Monday and Idol isn't on till tomorrow.
So, would you drink wine from a can? Or am I the only one?

Well, where is the romantic old fashion bottle of wine in all this?? I stay with my bottle, two wine glasses, and nice music...

Who cares what the wine comes in: all that matters is that it is a GOOD wine.
There are a lot of good box wines out there.
