Someone recently asked if I thought gay men and lesbians could be friends. My initial thought was, "of course we can!" I mean, what difference does it make who you're friends with? For me, I spend time with like-minded people who I find interesting and their sexual orientation really doesn't matter. But for some gay men and lesbians, never the twain shall meet—save their town's gay pride parade, which ends up being a drunken love fest where pretty much anything goes and we don't talk about it the day after (what happens at Pride...).

If I didn't witness this via a video on YouTube, I don't know if I would have believed it.
I'm talking about Representative Virginia Foxx's ludicrous assertion that Matthew Shepard, the gay University of Wyoming student who was tortured and killed back in 1998 because of his sexual orientation, wasn't, in fact, the victim of an anti-gay bias crime.

If you're a regular reader of this site, you've probably read the various opinion pieces I've written on why I think Howard Stern is one of the most openly pro-gay media figures on the planet.
In my continued quest to convince Stern's non-listeners of this, I wanted to share a snippet from this morning's broadcast. It was one of those many moments on the show where Howard inserts an insightful, positive opinion on gays -- completely out of nowhere.

In recent months, Perez Hilton has gone from gossip to gay rights crusader, and not everyone in the LGBT community wants him fighting for our rights.
I, for one, feel like he does us more harm than good. Case in point: After Miss California Carrie Prejean told him that marriage should be between a man and a woman, he went on the attack, expressing himself in less than eloquent fashion when he labeled her a "dumb bitch."

Police initially believed that alleged Craiglist Killer Philip Markoff was targeting women exclusively. But NBC News reports that the med student, who is accused of killing one woman and assaulting two others in Massachusetts and Rhode Island after contacting them via Craigslist, was also soliciting men on the site.

I was chilaxin' the other day, listening to the late George Carlin's bit on “Things You Never Hear" when he kills with: “Look, do what you want to the girl, but leave me ALONE!” So wrong...yet so freakin' funny - and suprisingly thought-provoking...

Am I the only lesbian out there who doesn't want to have kids? It sure does feel that way. I can't walk through Brooklyn's Park Slope without having to dodge lesbian couples pushing strollers. Sometimes they've even got those double-wide strollers with two babies, and I wouldn't be surprised if the day comes when I see triple-wide strollers hogging the sidewalks.

[Editor’s Note: This is the second opinion-based blog posting answering the question, “Can Guys Actually Be Bisexual?” You can read the other posting here.]
http://hottopics.gay.com/2009/04/can-guys-actually-be-bisexual.html
Let me pull my mouth away from my boyfriend's crotch long enough to respond to this question. Yes, guys can be bisexual. I’ve been bi all my life. So, for all you unbelievers, let me say for the record that your uneducated position has now been, shall we say, straightened out. Now you tell me why you refuse to believe in the existence of my female and trans lovers. Do you have the right to define what I am? Or is it that we're challenging your commercially informed definition of "gay"?

They say that a parent’s worst fear is surviving their child, and in my mind Estelle Getty, best known as Sophia on "The Golden Girls" left this world last summer satisfied that her longtime co-star (and daughter Dorothy on the show) Bea Arthur would be entertaining us for years to come.
But unfortunately only nine months after Getty’s passing, Arthur succumbed to cancer at the age of 86 early this morning, according to reports.

There's a joke that's been floating around for a while. Questions: What's the difference between a gay guy and a straight guy? Answer: about a six pack. For many gay men, landing a straight guy is tantamount to getting a great job, buying a Porsche or heading out on a two-month trip of Europe. It's a goal a lot of gay men set for themselves, but one that they rarely achieve. When they do, questions arise: Is the guy really straight? Is he bisexual? these questions usualy beg a final question: Is it really possible for a guy to be bisexual? There are a lot of opinions about this, but when you ask gay men, the answer is often "No."
