Stephen Colbert Parodies NOM's Anti-Gay Marriage Ad

Stephen Colbert's politically conservative alter ego came out against gay marriage during last night's installment of The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, delivering a wonderfully ridiculous rant about the dangers of same-sex marriage before premiering his own anti-gay marriage video parodying the ad recently released by NOM (the National Organization for Marriage).

That NOM ad was ripe for parody, by the way. You've seen it, right? It's the one with the people standing in front of dark clouds, warning of an approaching "storm" brought on by gay marriage and announcing the formation of "a rainbow coalition of people of every creed and color coming together in love to protect marriage."

Honestly, the ad is so bad that you have to wonder if whoever put it together was secretly working against NOM. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the director was gay!

For his part, Colbert praised NOM for fighting to keep "arma-gay-don" at bay and declared his love for their ad, noting, "It is like watching The 700 Club and The Weather Channel at the same time."

I love it when one of the actors makes the claim, "If all fifty states approve gay marriage, straight marriage becomes illegal." What do you think of Colbert's ad?

Lmao, I saw that when it aired, so very clever, I recall seeing the original ad and feeling disgusted by how they made it seem as though the gays would storm in and rape their families and murder their intellectuals.

Like gays were some modern day sadist Nazi movement, so the parody was similarly outrageous, but in a funny way. =)

Adam

This was hysterical! I just love his sense of humor!

Stephen C. Banks

700 Club and The Weather Channel. LOL Only Colbert.

Jonathan

This is stupid.

The Real Jonathan

This is hilarious!

TONY-Uptown

Oh Come on... To say those comments were gay marriage would be like saying Blazing Saddles was racist. The joke is on the other guy. Colbert is gifted with the art of sarcasm.

bob

ripe for parody. hm.

Joe

I thought the real commercial was the parody. How can anyone take NOM seriously? It's a sad comment on the state of our nation that people buy it.

RadioRiot

As usual top notch parody. Watching Colbert is like watching Spaceballs and Gay Porn at the same time. He is soooo cute.

Death: Beyond the Grave

Stephen Colbert is much better than all of you, and your opinions are void. BTW You're all going to burn in hell ;)

Dale

LOL this was awsome. The only reason anyone is appose to gay marriage is because the uber christians are attempting to pretend that they are doing something for god, without acctually having to do anything. They could feed the hungry shelter the homeless you know try to be ACTUAL christians but that would involve work and ... yea not so into that lol. So they pick something that would (in their tiny minds)make them look better in gods eye, without having to do much besides complain and condem (which them love more then anything). If any group of people were to claim marriage as their own the PAGANS!!!! would be the only ones to have the right since they were the first to come up with it..... just some food for thought, talk amongst yaselfs (i'm not interested in debating, this is just my view and it won't change so don't bother :-D )

Sheva

No desire to debate. I'm preaching to the choir (on gay.com, no less) but your comment about do-nothing Christians reminds me of something I heard on NPR a while back. This former big-shot Evangelist was talking about how hot-button issues like homosexuality and abortion were in a way forced onto the Christian agenda in order to fill the pews, get people fired up and donating to the church. Maybe that's something to keep in mind as we casually demonize whole faiths (like LDS) when, in fact, the parishioners are getting exploited by their leaders. That doesn't make the hate less real...I'm just saying...

Nathan

Ok, I'm gonna delve into the past to ask a question. How is this more news worthy than Jon Stewart demolishing Mike Huckabee last December?

Colbert can just stick it. Christians and other religious folks need to spend more time with the real commands of God instead of trying to do His job for him and judge.

cashss2002

"Let's come together in love" ...to hate.

tallman209

Absurdly brilliant!!

Astro

Colbert slaying us again with his wit and Sarcasm! Love it

wolf4t3

the original ad to me is the same thing Anita Bryant tried to do and failed at. Instead, it backfired and ended up opening a new door for the community. Bring it on...

Arthur Graves

He just showing how dum it is to fight agains gasy marrying. He also there to pook fun at any thing that can make him notiected

gerry

Cobert is using TV to show is prejudice and stupidity. Gay and Lesbian people are people just like him. Not some sub-human being to poke fun at. New York should get rid of Cobert and is racism.

Chemosh

Outstanding Cobert!!!

Bryan

It would have even been better if Colbert was actually funny. Imagine what they could have done with this on the Daily Show. I wish I had a chance to watch the Daily show more but oh well.....

Infovoyeur

Well it was good humor, why, well (1) surprise: "work marriage announcement into police report," and (2) wham addition: "...and a hooker maiks three." THANK YOU.

aventine61

That was really funny. Colbert was just making sarcastic fun of those who are against gay marriage.

Brian

If you are saying that Colbert's show was supporting the anti gay marriage campaigns, well, you don't obviously watch Colbert. I was rolling on the floor with his comments, because he was making fun of the entire thing. Don't get on Colbert's bad side. He's on our side.

KH88

*yawn*

Steven

I think gay marriage is the most stupid fucking idea to come down the pike in quite a long time. The original Stonewall Queens would shriek in horror at the idea of trying to fit in, and be just like straight people. Why not then just be straight if you want to live a sick boring stupid life and celebrate wedding anniversaries and have children and work in offices??

The Truth

It's no wonder more than twice as many people watch Colbert than Anderson Cooper.

For those of you who have not seen an episode of The Colbert Report, it's a parody. It's sarcasm. It's irony. One thing it's not? It's not serious. He doesn't just poke fun, he stabs it through the heart.

splerrk

Colbert is gay isn't he?
It seemed to me that he was making fun of the original commercial.
I didn't feel that he was gay bashing at all.
Even is he doesn't support Gay Marriage.
His commercial showed how rediculous the Right Rank is.
But I don't watch his show regularly, so what do I know.
It was cute in a silly way more than funny.

Lee Colby

I thought his parody was hilarious!! And come on people, don't you have spell check or something? Sheesh....the spelling on some of these comments is shocking.

Kevin

That was so funny! Colbert mastered parody with this one.

Kevin R.

I feel that Colbert did make a good parody against the NOM's. But at who's expense? Listen at how he speaks about the Mayor of New York and the people of this country; exspecially the gay community. We do not need people like this to try and help our cause. It only hurts our cause. Yes, NOM's Ad is wrong but doing an ad like this just makes it worse.

JC

Freaking hysterical. I can't believe that NOM ad though... As if that actually exists and that people are really dumb enough of believe it's absurdity.

Adi

Man that was HILARIOUS!!....I actually could not stop laughing!! And by the way.....the joke is not on the gay folks here!!

makinUdrool

i think most people got it. he's not making fun of gays. he's making fun of NOM by imitating them and showing how absurd they are. to me he's a comic genius and a major supporter of gays.
